The WNBA is set to take a brief hiatus allowing players to participate in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Before heading to the tournament or vacation, the Indiana Fever faced off against the Connecticut Sun.
The Fever aimed to carry their momentum from a recent 113-90 triumph over the Chicago Sky. Meanwhile, the Sun sought to secure only their 11th victory of the season. Despite a challenging season, the Sun took a solid 28-19 lead in the first quarter, a notable achievement on the road.
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever looked to head into the FIBA World Cup break with a win on Friday against the Connecticut Sun.
Inspired by this initial challenge, the Fever responded vigorously, dominating the second quarter. They outscored Connecticut 39-15, leading 58-43 at halftime.
The third quarter showcased Caitlin Clark’s assist to Kelsey Mitchell, one of Clark’s 12 assists that night. Kelsey Mitchell scored 34 points, allowing her to lead the WNBA in total points.
Caitlin Clark matched Mitchell with 34 points of her own. This performance marked their fourth game this season where both teammates scored over 30 points, setting a WNBA record.
The Fever secured a 111-91 victory, further extending their franchise record for games scoring over 100 points to 19. The regular season for Indiana now has four remaining games.
With the upcoming FIBA World Cup break, Indiana’s next game is scheduled for September 18, where they will face the Toronto Tempo on the road.
