The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that Valmir Djempsley, an illegal immigrant from Haiti, accused of killing his coworker, should not be freed into the public. Djempsley, 20, was charged with the murder of Brandon Eduardo Velasquez Chavez, 21, at the Clemens Food Group plant in Coldwater, Michigan.

The incident occurred on June 30 when an argument between the two men escalated. Djempsley reportedly chased Chavez with a knife and stabbed him in the back. Despite efforts by first responders, Chavez died at the scene. Djempsley claimed Chavez headbutted him during the argument.

Djempsley was on a work visa at the time, according to local reports. He entered the U.S. illegally through Texas in 2024 and was released into the country under the Biden administration. He faces murder charges and has pleaded not guilty. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer request with local authorities to ensure cooperation.

This illegal alien barbarically stabbed his coworker to death,” stated acting DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “This tragedy is a result of the Biden administration’s immigration policies.”

At the time of the murder, the argument was reportedly over Chavez using one of Djempsley’s knives. The Sturgis Journal obtained this information from an affidavit. Djempsley is currently denied bond and held in Branch County jail.

A Branch County prosecutor highlighted the seriousness of the crime in court, describing it as “. . . the most serious violation known to humankind.”
