Illegal Immigrant Accused in Serious Crimes in the U.S.

An illegal immigrant from Venezuela has been accused of murder in California. The alleged incident occurred shortly after a local judge released the suspect. Federal officials are now insisting that Governor Gavin Newsom hand over the suspect for deportation.

Separately, Isaac Melendez-Carranza, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, faces charges for allegedly dealing fentanyl close to a Virginia high school. He is under a final deportation order since 2024. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that he was arrested on August 20, charged with distributing fentanyl within 1,000 feet of a school, and is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

A DHS spokesperson stated that ICE had lodged a detainer for Melendez-Carranza with the Loudoun County Jail. An immigration judge issued a removal order on July 18, 2024. The Biden administration has been criticized for inaction in this case by the DHS. This criticism follows the arrest of Melendez-Carranza near the Texas border in 2016 after entering the U.S. illegally.

Melendez-Carranza is linked to overdoses involving Park View High School students, as stated by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Local authorities discovered 100 pills and $1,000 cash in his home, as reported by FOX 5 DC. Several students had been hospitalized from suspected overdoses at the high school in May. The school district later reported that two students suffered nonfatal suspected overdoses during school hours.

Sheriff Mike Chapman described the situation as particularly concerning due to the impact of these drugs on local students. He confirmed that Melendez-Carranza would be handed over to ICE after facing local charges. The sheriff emphasized the seriousness, stating that the presence of such individuals could contribute to troubling situations.

More arrests may be made, according to the sheriff’s office, although no specific timeline was provided. DHS highlighted that nearly 70% of ICE arrests involve illegal immigrants charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S.
