Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom discussed his recent ejection during a WNBA game while speaking with Laura Ingraham on The Ingraham Angle. The incident occurred during the Indiana Fever versus Chicago Sky match at Wintrust Arena. Freedom was removed from the venue after an altercation with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud.
Freedom attended the game to support Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. He wore a shirt with the definition of “woman” as “adult human female.” He explained his presence was motivated by a love for basketball and support for Cunningham, who has faced criticism for defending women’s sports.
During the game, Freedom’s celebratory gesture after a 3-pointer by Cunningham prompted a hostile response from Cloud. She confronted him with personal insults and loud remarks. “I enjoyed the game,” Freedom stated to Ingraham. “I raised my hand to celebrate Cunningham’s shot, and Cloud started yelling at me,” he continued.
The altercation escalated as Cloud directed profanity at Freedom in front of children present in the audience, as reported by Kanter. “I was surprised she wasn’t penalized,” he noted. Instead, event security removed Freedom from the premises while Cloud’s conduct went unpunished.
Freedom addressed the controversy surrounding the definition of a woman. “It’s surprising this is a contentious issue now,” he said. He mentioned previous conversations with the league regarding gender identity and participation in women’s sports.
Freedom also commented on the possibility of being barred from future WNBA games, due to potential PR concerns about the league’s gender policies. Meanwhile, Fever’s head coach Stephanie White downplayed the incident, attributing it to social media exaggeration.
