Official Cause of Death
South Carolina authorities have officially determined the cause of Hayden Panettiere’s death. The actress passed away due to the toxic effects of multiple drugs, classified as accidental. These findings bring resolution after weeks of public speculation surrounding the death of the former Heroes and Nashville star.
Details from the Coroner’s Report
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office revealed Panettiere’s death stemmed from fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine toxicity. The examination showed no evidence of trauma or foul play, leading officials to conclude the death was accidental. Newsweek obtained the full report.
Emergency Response and Investigation
A cardiac arrest report came through a 911 call on August 16 at 1:51 p.m. First responders arrived at a residence on Easley Bridge Road in Greenville, finding Panettiere in cardiac arrest. Despite advanced life support, resuscitation failed, and she was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m. Panettiere had been temporarily staying at this location.
The coroner’s office and Greenville City Police Department launched immediate investigations. An autopsy revealed no traumatic injuries affecting her death, dismissing violence or outside causes. Toxic drug effects were identified as responsible.
Drugs Found in Toxicology Report
Fentanyl was one of the key substances in Panettiere’s death. This synthetic opioid is notable for its significant role in the U.S. overdose crisis due to its strength and presence in illegal drugs, according to public health officials. The report also listed 4-ANPP, a compound used in fentanyl production.
Beyond fentanyl-related compounds, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine were cited as contributing factors. Alprazolam is more commonly known as Xanax, used for anxiety. Methocarbamol serves as a muscle relaxant, while quetiapine treats bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and major depressive disorder. Officials did not provide dosage specifics or entry methods into Panettiere’s system.
