Former Missouri News Anchor Admits to Killing Mother on Halloween

Angelynn “Angie” Mock, a former television news anchor from Missouri, has confessed to fatally stabbing her mother last Halloween. Mock believed her mother was the devil, according to authorities.

Mock, aged 48, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for killing 80-year-old Anita Avers on October 31, 2025. The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced the plea on Friday. As part of the agreement, Mock will face a life sentence, with a chance of parole after serving 25 years.

Wichita police reported that they were dispatched to the home that Mock shared with her mother and stepfather around 7:50 a.m. on the day of the incident. Upon arrival, officers found Mock outside with cuts on her hands. Avers was in critical condition with multiple stab wounds and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The affidavit indicated that Mock made statements suggesting she believed her mother was the devil, claiming she acted to “save herself.” Her stepfather told KAKE-TV that Mock had been diagnosed with mental illness, suffering from delusions and depression.

Mock was formerly employed as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. Her LinkedIn profile also lists prior work as a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011, along with other reporting roles in Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska.

Mock is due to be sentenced on October 5.
