Flash Floods Lead to Tragedy in Grand Canyon

Officials have confirmed a second death at Grand Canyon National Park following severe flash floods over the weekend. Heavy rains led to destructive flooding in a remote area, frequented by hikers and campers.

The National Park Service reports that more than a dozen individuals are still missing. Search and recovery operations are focused along Bright Angel Creek, which travels from near the canyon’s north rim down to the Colorado River.

The search efforts face potential delays due to forecasts of more rain and thunderstorms expected on Monday. Late Sunday, rescuers located the first victim, a 46-year-old man, near Crystal Rapids along the Colorado River. Details about the second victim have not been provided by the Park Service.
