Federal Judge Orders Resumption of Immigration Processing

A federal judge in Rhode Island has directed the administration to resume processing immigration applications. This order targets those from countries affected by a previous ban following an incident last year involving two National Guard troops.

As of June 11, 2026, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is under scrutiny. The agency’s director, Joseph Edlow, faces pressure to comply swiftly with the court’s mandate. His department had paused asylum decisions and immigration processing for several nations, a measure suspended indefinitely.

On Thursday, the judge criticized the Trump administration’s delay in implementing last week’s ruling. The ruling requires lifting the blanket pause on asylum decisions and reinstating immigration processing for numerous countries.
