The FBI’s joint terrorism task force in New York is currently examining an incident where a suspect allegedly set off an explosive device in Lower Manhattan. Law enforcement apprehended an individual at the location outside a building that hosts both an FBI field office and New York immigration court facilities.
The individual identified as the suspect in deploying the incendiary device is Andrew Arrabaca, as confirmed by two law enforcement sources to Fox News Digital. These sources indicated that Arrabaca possessed materials critical of ICE at the time of the alleged act. Following the incident, Arrabaca was promptly taken into custody.
FBI Director Kash Patel shared in a post that the event occurred outside 26 Federal Plaza in New York this morning. The authorities took the suspect into custody, and two minor injuries were reported. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is actively investigating the situation.
FBI New York field office Assistant Director in Charge James Barnacle Jr. reported that Arrabaca was found with an unidentified liquid. He further stated that Arrabaca placed fireworks on this liquid, resulting in a small fire. Initial details mentioned ICE agents being part of this apprehension. Additionally, the suspect had a pellet gun. Two individuals, including a federal employee and a civilian, were injured, but both have been treated and released.
The location in question also contains offices for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York City commented through a statement expressing concerns over the morning’s events. He conveyed relief that no significant injuries occurred and thanked the law enforcement agencies for taking swift action.
