Family of Slain NYC Child Demands Justice and Policy Reform

Family Demands Justice After Child’s Tragic Death

New York City is reeling after the heartbreaking death of 12-year-old Jacob Freytes, killed by a stray bullet in the Bronx. His family, including mother Migdalia Martinez and sister Angelica Coriano, spoke out on ‘Fox & Friends’. They are calling for justice and urging an overhaul of current crime laws. Martinez expressed concern that career criminals feel safer than ever.

Mother Accused of Stabbing Her Children

A 22-year-old North Dakota mother, Kailey Erhart, faces grave criminal charges after allegedly stabbing her own children. Erhart reportedly attacked her 5-month-old and 3-year-old children, resulting in their deaths. The incident left officers at the scene deeply affected.

“A scene like that is something that nobody should ever have to see,” said Mandan Police Chief Jason Ziegler.

The children’s 1-year-old sibling survived, undergoing surgery for serious injuries. Police Chief Ziegler described the gruesome scene as one of the worst his team will likely witness.

Incident Details

Erhart had been in conflict with her estranged husband, reportedly threatening him with a gun earlier that day. Their altercation included physical struggles where her husband managed to disarm her. According to reports, Erhart also bit and scratched her husband during the confrontation.

During the tragic incident, the children’s grandmother and their father were present. The grandmother reported that Erhart chased them with a knife before attacking the children. Erhart now faces nine charges, including two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

Legal Proceedings and Community Response

A judge set Erhart’s bond at $3 million, underscoring the violent nature of the alleged crimes. The court also issued no-contact orders to protect surviving victims and family members. Erhart’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 6.

A GoFundMe to support the surviving child and their father has already raised more than $25,000. The children’s father continues to face overwhelming grief as he navigates this difficult time. The fundraising statement emphasizes the unimaginable pain the family endures while caring for the surviving child.
