Democratic senators are maintaining their support for Maine Senate nominee Troy Jackson, despite recent allegations. Jackson replaced Graham Platner on the ballot for the U.S. Senate race in Maine after Platner withdrew due to scandals, including sexual misconduct claims.

A new report alleges Jackson fathered two children with his second cousin. However, many lawmakers argue the importance of winning swing state races to regain the Senate majority. Susan Collins, a moderate Republican, has held the seat since 1997.

Independent Senator Angus King of Maine expressed no comment on the claims. Similarly, other senators contacted by Fox News Digital stated they lacked knowledge of the allegations. Senator Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland emphasized the need to elect Democrats across all positions. Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland highlighted Jackson’s dedication to working people, while Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island focused on combatting rising costs and corruption.

The report was first revealed by Steven Robinson of The Maine Wire, claiming genealogical findings tied Jackson to Lana Pelletier, his second cousin. Despite the allegations, Jackson secured 94% of delegate votes in the delegate process, replacing Platner after his bid ended amid rape allegations.

Jackson’s campaign responded to Fox News Digital, accusing Collins of diverting attention from her voting record of aligning with Trump 96% of the time. They labeled the personal attacks as shameful. No further comments were provided by Jackson’s campaign.

Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff from Georgia, when asked about the report, pointed to Michigan’s race and showed his support for Michigan’s nominee Abdu El-Sayed. Ossoff mentioned waiting to see the outcome in Maine before endorsing Jackson.

Senators, while supporting Jackson, view the effort as part of a larger strategy against Republican agendas, particularly focusing on issues related to the Trump administration. Senator Alsobrooks criticized the current administration’s lack of strategy to end the conflict in Iran, a major concern among voters. A Fox News Poll indicates 56% of voters oppose military action in Iran.

Alsobrooks reiterated her aim to endorse Democratic candidates nationwide to regain control of Congress. She emphasized bringing down living costs and providing healthcare as priorities for Democrats.
