Defense Secretary Praises National Guard Amid Protests

At a gathering in Meridian Hill Park, Washington D.C., Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth lauded the efforts of National Guard members. He asserted that their presence had led to a significant decrease in crime rates throughout the city.

Despite these claims, the event was marked by demonstrations. Protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the deployment, which has lasted nearly a year. These voices made their concerns known as the administration highlighted what they viewed as successes.

Alongside Secretary Hegseth were key figures such as White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, and General Steven Nordhaus, the chief of the National Guard Bureau.

The ceremony also served to recognize the contributions of the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force. Officials emphasized the positive impact that this strategic presence had on the community.

The protest underscored a divide, where, on one side, officials celebrated what they considered a victory for public safety. On the other side, citizens questioned the necessity and impact of the prolonged military presence.
