Darline Graham Nordone Considers Senate Run Following Lindsey Graham’s Passing

Darline Graham Nordone has shown interest in pursuing a full Senate term, according to reports. The announcement comes as memorial services for her late brother, Lindsey Graham, have been scheduled.

Three individuals familiar with the situation revealed to The Associated Press that Darline Graham has initiated discussions about a potential campaign. She was appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster on Monday to serve the remainder of her brother’s term and took the oath of office on Tuesday.

Upcoming Election Details

The filing period for a special primary takes place from July 21 to July 28, with the primary date set for August 11. The Associated Press noted that several other politicians, including Representatives Russell Fry, Nancy Mace, and Ralph Norman, as well as Lt. Governor Pamela Evette, are considering running for the seat.

Historic Appointment

Governor Henry McMaster announced that the remainder of Lindsey Graham’s Senate term would be completed by his sister, Darline Graham Nordone, making her the first female senator from South Carolina and the first sister ever appointed to the Senate.

Memorial services for Lindsey Graham will take place on Tuesday, July 28, in Washington, D.C., and on Wednesday, July 29, in Columbia and Pickens County, South Carolina, according to his communications director.

Lindsey Graham’s Legacy

Lindsey Graham’s cause of death was determined as an aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, based on a statement from his office. His sister emphasized her commitment to honoring his memory, stating, “Lindsey has always been there for me, and now I will be there for him.” She described her brother as an “amazing person, outstanding leader, and just a genuinely good man.”

Darline Graham is anticipated to serve as a caretaker senator, completing Lindsey Graham’s term, which extends through January.
