Dallas Cowboys Coach Moves Closer to Training Facility

Since 2009, the Dallas Cowboys have been playing their home games at AT&T Stadium located in Arlington, Texas. Their headquarters and training facilities, known as The Star, are situated in Frisco—approximately 36 miles from the stadium.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer, in his second year with the team, currently resides in McKinney, Texas, which is about a 30-minute drive from the team facility. To reduce his daily commute, Schottenheimer has decided to put his expansive McKinney home on the market and plans to purchase a new property closer to the facilities.

According to Carrie Himel of the Compass Sports & Entertainment division, the decision to move was primarily driven by the desire to be closer to work. “It really is just time being closer to work, and every minute counts when you’re at that level, for him,” Himel shared with The Dallas Morning News.

The coach’s 5,700-square-foot home was listed at $3.8 million as of mid-April, as reported by Zillow. The Collin County Appraisal District valued the property at close to $2 million for tax purposes. Himel added that a buyer was quickly found for this unique property, which is described as a “private, serene oasis” that offers views of nature from every window.

McKinney, 17 miles from The Star, no longer seemed suitable for Schottenheimer. There is no information yet on the location of his next home.

The home, built in 2021, features four bedrooms, four and a half baths, a movie room, and an infinity-edge pool. It also includes a garage with space for three cars.

Schottenheimer advanced from defensive coordinator to head coach in January 2025 after Mike McCarthy’s departure. Under his leadership, the Cowboys finished 7-9-1 in his first season, missing out on the playoffs.

Living in a nature-centric setting, the Schottenheimer family enjoyed interaction with local wildlife. Brian Schottenheimer recounted an unusual instance when an owl entered their home during a game-planning session against the Arizona Cardinals. The owl was eventually removed by animal control.
