Crane Arm Collapse in Miami: Workers Escape Unharmed

Construction workers narrowly avoided disaster on Friday when a crane’s arm collapsed onto the pool deck of a nearby high-rise in Miami. Footage captured by a bystander, Macie Norrod, showed the dramatic incident as the crane arm swung through the air, crashing into palm trees on the elevated pool area of the One Plaza West Brickell condominium.

Norrod, who witnessed the collapse from her home office, described her reaction as one of shock and disbelief. She expressed her fear for the workers’ safety, recalling that she thought she would witness them being crushed by the crane’s weights.

The harrowing moment showed workers in green vests gripping onto the structure’s upper sections as the arm gave way. Fortunately, they managed to climb down ladders to safety. Lt. Pete Sanchez, a spokesperson for Miami Fire Rescue, explained that the crane, yet to be operational, was in the assembly process when an unexpected failure occurred.

Upon the incident, firefighters promptly accessed the pool deck to confirm that no one was harmed. Photos shared by Miami Fire Rescue indicated part of the crane’s arm rested partly submerged in the pool. They secured the area, closing off access to ensure public safety.

The construction team assured authorities that all personnel were accounted for, with no injuries reported. Investigations by Miami’s Building Department and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration are underway.
