Count Binface: The Comedic Politician from Planet Sigma IX

Beneath a black cape, rubbish bin, and armor that seems like a costume from a sci-fi flick, lies a comedian named Jon Harvey. He navigates summers with Binface, his alter ego, never breaking character, and providing witty remarks at every challenge.

Harvey refers to Return of the Jedi when asked about being unmasked, suggesting nobody desires to unveil what’s absolutely putrefying under the recycling. A London native and Oxford classics graduate, Harvey contributed to TV shows The Thick of It and Have I Got News for You.

Eccentric candidates, like those from the Monster Raving Loony Party, exemplify Britain’s celebrated electoral tradition, where any adult can run for office. Harvey’s political journey began as Lord Buckethead, challenging Prime Minister Theresa May. The persona ended in a Copyright battle, leading to Binface’s creation.

Binface ran against figures like Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak, twice challenging London Mayor Sadiq Khan. Khan jokingly acknowledged Binface’s challenge after his 2024 victory.

Binface lost to Andy Burnham in a recent special election. Still, as leader of the Recyclons, he persists with a platform mixing humor and hyperlocal policies. His promises include cutting taxes for citizens alone, creating affordable housing, and nationalizing singer Adele.

An odd proposal involves relocating a hand dryer in Uxbridge, humorously questioning the comfort of using the urinal amidst hot air blasts. His appeal lies in not being populist Nigel Farage, though he avoids direct attacks. Instead, he highlights Farage’s ties to the U.S. and declares his disinterest in gifts from crypto billionaires.

Binface, discussing rule exceptions in Parliament for costumes, jokes about the government’s priorities. He does not foresee victory, but if elected, plans to embrace the UK-US special relationship through a galactic union while conceding to Atlantic constraints. His playful manifesto even includes capping croissant prices and penalizing cyclists with unicycles.
