Conor McGregor Details Knee Injury Post-UFC 329 Fight

Conor McGregor has shared information about his knee injury sustained during his brief return to the UFC on July 11 in Las Vegas. McGregor, who lost to Max Holloway by technical knockout at UFC 329, described the injury as ‘quite shocking.’ He confirmed on social media platform X that he injured his ACL and meniscus.

It is the same injury as the first Holloway fight, only this time the opposite leg. Quite shocking, McGregor stated.

McGregor’s first bout with Holloway happened over a decade ago. Despite the coincidence of this recent injury, McGregor remains optimistic. He aims for a comeback next summer, citing advancements in regenerative medicine and training methods as supporting factors.

I am walking without a crutch. I done leg extension machine work the other day to no issue, McGregor reported. He highlighted his discipline and continuous positive outlook.

I wonder was I saved from something worse here … Thank you God! On we go, no sad stories, he added, expressing gratitude for the support received.

The fight saw McGregor attempt a jumping roundhouse kick on Holloway. Upon landing, he immediately clutched his right knee. Despite trying to fend off Holloway, the match ended quickly with the referee calling it off just seconds into the first round.

Afterward, McGregor expressed his frustration online, stating, My head gasket is gone. Destroyed … I can only describe it as hell. He noted the surprise of his injury, as he had been practicing kicks leading up to the fight.

McGregor’s camp even released footage showing his successful practice of the jumping roundhouse kicks pre-fight. With a UFC career record of 22-7, the 38-year-old fighter intends to recover and return to the octagon, aiming not to conclude his career with this injury.
