Colin Kaepernick Criticizes NFL and Trump Administration

Former NFL player Colin Kaepernick recently expressed his dissatisfaction with both the Trump administration and the NFL during an interview on “The View.” He highlighted his belief that the league supported the administration politically.

While speaking with co-host Ana Navarro, Kaepernick addressed the circumstances surrounding his contract with the 49ers and subsequent lack of opportunities within the NFL. Navarro mentioned the lawsuit he filed against the NFL alleging collusion among team owners to keep him out, which resulted in a confidential settlement.

“I think it was political,” Kaepernick stated. He also mentioned the power dynamics involved. He pointed out that his protest wasn’t aimed directly at the NFL, but the league’s reaction shed light on its political stance, particularly with respect to the donations made to President Donald Trump.

Co-host Sunny Hostin agreed, and the audience showed their support. Kaepernick noted that, despite significant support for his protest, the NFL faced boycotts due to its response. He also emphasized the influence Black players wield as they comprise around 70% of the league’s workforce.

“If NFL players unified and chose not to participate for a weekend, it would lead to a cessation of games, affecting business, and prompting rapid change,” Kaepernick remarked. He mentioned the hate and death threats he received, underscoring some individuals’ perceptions of disrespect towards the flag and country.

“Yes and no,” he answered when asked about his surprise regarding the backlash.

Kaepernick highlighted historical examples of Black athletes who faced similar responses for protesting. He expressed surprise at the resistance to addressing police violence against Black people, considering it a non-controversial issue that necessitates work towards a safer, equitable society.

Attempts by Fox News Digital to get comments from the NFL and the White House did not yield immediate responses.

Colin Kaepernick recently discussed his book, “The Perilous Fight,” on “The View,” marking a decade since he began kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice.

In an earlier interview, Kaepernick accused the NFL of “actively blackballing” him and expressed his decision to withdraw support from the league, opting to watch college football instead.
