A tragic accident claimed the life of a 4-year-old child in Savonburg, Kansas. The child was electrocuted by a clothes dryer last Thursday. The Allen County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) released this information on Saturday.

The incident occurred while the child was playing inside a home. The sheriff’s office mentioned the child received a shock from a 220-volt dryer. The parents took their unconscious child to a nearby hospital around 9:30 p.m.

Unfortunately, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital. No foul play is suspected, and ACSO is conducting an investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office conveys deep condolences to the family and those affected, including Allen County dispatchers, first responders, and hospital staff.

A 220-volt shock can lead to severe injury or death, causing effects like cardiac arrest. Clothes dryers often cause home fires annually. These are mainly due to lint buildup or overheating. However, electrical deaths related to major laundry appliances are rare.

In a rare 2018 incident, a 10-year-old boy was found dead in a dryer at a Houston-area apartment complex. He was electrocuted, with no signs of injury or foul play.
