Details of the Incident
Jermaine Pelt died on April 4, 2023, during a late-night fire at the 12000 block on South Wallace Street, West Pullman. Reports indicate that the fire spread rapidly across the second floor and attic of the frame house.
Investigators cited bottles of hand sanitizer as the fire’s ignition source. Following the incident, Moore filed a fraudulent insurance claim, providing a lease agreement that falsely claimed lost rental income due to the fire.

Matthew Hendrickson, representing Virgil through the Cook County Public Defender’s Office, expressed relief at the charges being dropped. Hendrickson criticized the initial prosecution, emphasizing the lack of evidence against his client.
Virgil endured months of incarceration before securing release under electronic monitoring. Hendrickson asserted that the dismissal acknowledges the prosecution’s weak case that should never have proceeded.
