A business jet crashed on a Texas highway on Tuesday night, resulting in one fatality, according to the police. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Loop 20 in Laredo, Texas, when the plane, carrying six individuals, went down and caught fire. Investigator Jose Baeza of the Laredo Police Department confirmed the event.

Baeza reported that the aircraft had also collided with a vehicle during the crash. Authorities had not determined whether the deceased was among those on the plane or on the ground.

Initial reports did not indicate severe injuries on the ground. However, five officers at the scene were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation, Baeza noted. The highway, Loop 20, was closed after the crash and was expected to stay closed into Wednesday morning.

The aircraft involved was identified as a Cessna Citation Latitude twin jet, according to data from FlightAware. It had departed from Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico at 6:19 p.m. NetJets confirmed in a statement that one of its planes was implicated in the crash and stated they are collaborating with authorities.

A social media video captured the aftermath, displaying the plane on its side against a highway barrier with its tail section dislocated from the main body. The cause of the crash, which occurred approximately 140 miles southwest of San Antonio, was not immediately clear.
