Bobby Jones and Miles Russell: Golfing Legends

Bobby Jones: A Golfing Icon

Bobby Jones was born on March 17, 1902, in Atlanta, Georgia. He became one of the greatest amateur golfers in history. His journey in golf began early, reaching the third round of the U.S. Amateur at just 14 years old. This marked the start of an impressive career.

Jones won 13 major championships, maintaining his amateur status throughout. This record remains unbeaten in the history of golf. In 1930, he achieved a major milestone, showcasing his immense talent on the golf course.

Miles Russell: A Teen Prodigy

Miles Russell emerged as the youngest player in the 2026 U.S. Open at 17. Competing at such a young age at Shinnecock Hills was a remarkable experience for him and his family.

The final round of the championship held a special moment. Russell approached USGA officials with an unusual request: to have his father, Joe, take over caddying duties for the last hole. The officials agreed, creating a memorable Father’s Day gesture.

“It was pretty cool,” Russell reflected after the final round. “Walking up 18 with my dad stepping in, it was a fun Father’s Day gift. I hope he remembers it for a long time.”

Russell made the cut at the U.S. Open with a score of 3-over in the first two rounds. He faced challenges during the third round, scoring a 74, but finished strong with an even par in the final round.

He qualified for the U.S. Open after a decisive three-man playoff, securing one of two spots. During the qualifying rounds, Charlie Woods, Tiger’s son, served as Russell’s caddie.

Russell and Woods both committed to play college golf at Florida State. In 2024, Russell set a record as the youngest player to make the cut in a Korn Ferry Tour tournament, finishing in 20th place.
