Comedian Bill Maher criticized BuzzFeed and HuffPost on his podcast “Club Random” with Byron Allen. Allen recently acquired BuzzFeed and also owns HuffPost. Maher called these publications “peak woke.”

“All these places have been horrible to me,” Maher stated, noting that HuffPost changed after Arianna Huffington departed from the company. “It became the most woke,” he said.

Maher expressed his frustration with the left, mentioning that HuffPost had been critical of him. “That’s what I hate about the left. The purity,” he commented. Maher added that he finds much of their beliefs to be “silly, insane revolutionary garbage.”

He also criticized the staff at HuffPost and BuzzFeed, labeling them as “snarky” millennials, often from privileged backgrounds. “All these places are a bunch of snarky f—ing millennial, probably Nepo babies,” Maher remarked.

Byron Allen, who has been CEO of BuzzFeed for a few weeks, mentioned he reads the publications. “At the end of the day, I do read it,” Allen affirmed, explaining the importance of understanding a spectrum of perspectives.

HuffPost faced controversy earlier in the year over an article about feeling discomfort in supporting the USA during the Olympics. The piece discussed pride in American athletes amid negative feelings about government actions.

Olympians like Hunter Hess voiced their complex feelings, highlighting disconnection from some U.S. policies. “There’s obviously a lot going on that I’m not the biggest fan of,” Hess said, emphasizing he doesn’t represent all current U.S. actions.
