The Arizona Cardinals will temporarily lose their No. 3 overall selection from the 2026 NFL Draft, Jeremiyah Love, due to an ankle injury. Head Coach Mike LaFleur confirmed the news on Saturday. Love encountered the injury during a preseason match against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Despite initially downplaying the injury, Love felt increased soreness the day after the game. LaFleur stated, “He was in great spirits, even on Friday. But we’ll keep him out this week as we let it heal. So, a little bit more sore than we were anticipating.”

When asked how Love’s absence could affect the team’s preparation for Week 1, LaFleur focused on immediate practice plans rather than long-term speculation. He said, “This week and then we’ll kind of go from there and reevaluate. Honestly, all the focus is on August 15th, Saturday. Here we are in our Tempe block of practice. We’ll kind of reevaluate going into next week. But he will be out this week.”

Love will miss the Cardinals’ upcoming preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. In the first preseason outing, Love achieved 11 carries for 58 yards and caught three passes for 14 yards.

With Love sidelined, Tyler Allgeier will take the lead running back position, supported by Bam Knight and Corey Kiner. Veteran James Conner remains out of 11-on-11 drills as he is recovering from a foot injury incurred last season.

The Cardinals are also facing another setback with rookie Chase Bisontis, a second-round pick competing for a starting guard spot. Bisontis sustained a torn MCL in his left knee and will be placed on injured reserve.

“He’ll be out for a good amount of time, if not the whole year,” LaFleur shared about Bisontis. “Sucks for him. Always think about the player first. Sucks for the Cardinals too. He’s a good player, but more importantly, you hate it for the player.”
