SEC and Big Ten Ban Return of Professional Players to College

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) implemented a new rule on Tuesday, prohibiting players who have been drafted by NFL, NBA, or WNBA teams, or who have been part of rosters in these leagues, from returning to college sports. This follows a similar move by the Big Ten as they respond to recent court orders permitting such players to return to college after being released.

The SEC’s ban is more comprehensive, covering multiple sports, whereas the Big Ten’s rule applies solely to football. These actions highlight the strong stance the nation’s two largest conferences are taking against the influx of professional players seeking to return to collegiate athletics.

This decision impacts programs like LSU, whose coach, Lane Kiffin, had recently added Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris. Both athletes had summer tryouts with NFL teams but were cut during training camp. They are categorized as undrafted players from Mississippi.
