Jewish actor Adam Brody, known for his role in the Netflix series “Nobody Wants This,” has joined the list of celebrities criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza. In a conversation with GQ Magazine, he labeled the situation as ‘genocide’ and advocated for a ‘free Palestine.’ Brody also discussed his political activism and work with the progressive group Swing Left, despite not previously addressing the Middle East conflict publicly.
Brody believes the ongoing crisis in Gaza has reached a critical point. He hopes that future U.S. administrations will address and amend the policies contributing to the situation’s severity.
His comments align with those of other progressives, like actor Mark Ruffalo and rapper Macklemore, who have made similar accusations against Israel. Despite this outcry, Brody notes a reduced political engagement in Hollywood, attributing the shift to changes observed during former President Donald Trump’s tenure.
Brody remarked on the activism surge following Trump’s initial election, describing it as a period that galvanized many previously inactive individuals to enter politics. However, during Trump’s second presidential campaign, the atmosphere shifted. According to Brody, corporate support for Trump increased, making political dissent riskier.
He also noted a rise in conservative voices within Hollywood during Trump’s second term. Brody attributes this trend to human nature’s draw towards power and success.
Christian Toto, founder of “Hollywood in Toto,” offered a different perspective. He acknowledged slight improvements for conservatives in Hollywood but emphasized that groupthink and subtle pressure remain strong. Toto disagreed with Brody’s viewpoint on a more conservative Hollywood, suggesting instead that activism is gaining momentum once more.
