Jelly Roll Confronts Stress Eating During Divorce

Country music star Jelly Roll has openly discussed his struggles with stress eating. During an interaction with a fan, he acknowledged that his addictive tendencies, similar to those that fueled past substance abuse, have resurfaced amid his ongoing divorce from Bunnie Xo.

Jelly Roll revealed in a YouTube video that his stress eating had intensified over a period of three to four days. He described how a small indulgence quickly led to excessive calorie consumption. “I’ve been overeating the last three or four days,” he stated. “And then, what else happened was the addict in me came out.”

“We had this show at this one spot that I love their catering,” he explained. “They have a dairy-free skillet cookie. I don’t eat nothing like that. I’m like a drug addict. You can’t eat that, because if I eat one, I eat two. I eat four. Later that night, I’m at the taco truck getting the peanut butter fluff. Next thing I know, we’re at the rest stop. I’m looking for a chocolate bar.”

The artist shared how quickly these cravings can lead to significant overconsumption, stating he unexpectedly amassed an extra 2,000 calories in one day. Jelly Roll, who once weighed over 500 pounds, has been celebrating milestones throughout his transformative weight loss journey, shedding 275 pounds over the years.

Despite his achievements, Jelly Roll admitted he struggles with moderation. “Like, that’s like the hardest thing to understand is that I can’t have one burger,” he said. “I got to have five. No, I can’t. I can’t have one anything … It’s like even like my problem is it could be healthy.”

This all-or-nothing mindset also impacts his approach to cheat meals, often leading to prolonged binge sessions. One indulgence can lead to what he described as a “five-day food bender.”

“What I learned is how you do anything is how you do everything,” Jelly Roll noted in the video. “I’m like that with alcohol. I’ve never done, I’ve never had a shot. I’ve never done a line of cocaine. I’ve never smoked a joint.”

Reflecting on these challenges has shifted his perspective on obesity. Jelly Roll believes the issue often ties into deeper mental health concerns. “People don’t get it,” he emphasized. “You don’t become the size you became without having a mental health issue.”

Understanding his triggers has been pivotal in changing his relationship with food, helping him prevent extreme indulgences. He continues to navigate the emotional hurdles linked to his weight.

Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo’s divorce proceedings began with his petition to Tennessee courts, citing irreconcilable differences. They married in August 2016 and separated on May 9, sharing two children from Jelly Roll’s previous relationship.
