The United States military announced it carried out another strike on Saturday targeting a boat suspected of smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean. This operation resulted in the deaths of three individuals, marking the fourth such strike within the week. This brings the total death toll from these operations to 205.
The U.S. Southern Command reported that the targeted vessel was involved in narco-trafficking activities and was operated by a designated terrorist organization. However, they did not provide evidence to support these claims. This strike is part of an ongoing campaign focused on suspected drug-smuggling boats in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific. The military shared video footage on social media, showing a small boat in the ocean being destroyed by an explosive impact.
These strikes commenced in early September, with similar attacks occurring on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of the same week. The Trump administration previously stated that the U.S. is in an armed conflict with Latin American drug cartels, which they accuse of facilitating the drug trade into the United States.
According to U.S. Southern Command’s post on X, the latest operation was ordered by Gen. Francis L. Donovan, the leading U.S. commander in Latin America.
