Joy Behar’s Upcoming Break from ‘The View’ Explained

“The View” co-host Joy Behar addressed her forthcoming break from the talk show, stating it should not be termed a “hiatus.” On Friday, Behar clarified she would be absent for a short period, not due to a hiatus, but for work on her upcoming play in London.

During a Tuesday episode of the show’s “Behind the Table” podcast, Behar shared she would take a break from hosting duties. The show’s producer, Brian Teta, noted, “This is your last podcast for a little bit, because next week you’re not going to be here.”

On Friday, Behar dispelled rumors regarding her break, explaining the nature of her upcoming overseas trip. “There’s been a lot of media attention on me lately because I’m taking off the next two weeks. They’re calling it a hiatus. It’s not a hiatus,” she remarked. “I have a planned trip overseas next week to work on my play, ‘My First Ex-Husband,’ in London.”

The audience applauded Behar’s clarification, and she invited viewers to visit the official website for further information about her play and others. “I’ve written a bunch of plays,” she mentioned, adding that she plans to perform another play titled “Bonkers in the Boroughs” in the Hamptons by the end of summer.

Co-host Sara Haines humorously commented on Behar’s break, “I love that they’re calling it a hiatus. That’s a break, people, when you stop working.” Behar inquired if her co-hosts would miss her, to which they replied affirmatively. Haines suggested that Behar could continue contributing by texting jokes from afar.

The official website describes her play as “a bold and heartfelt adaptation of true stories” by Joy Behar, exploring themes of love, sex, and relationships with humor. It adds that a rotating cast of stars from theatre, television, and film will bring unique performances to the show.
