CNN host Jake Tapper, who moderated the 2024 debate heavily criticized for affecting then-President Joe Biden, shared insights in a video posted on Thursday. He mentioned that after the debate, Jill Biden did not show any indication of concern regarding her husband’s state.
Despite her recent interviews where Jill Biden expressed fear of a possible stroke during the debate, Tapper recalls her demeanor as calm during interactions. He said, “After the debate, she and the president approached the moderators’ table, and they showed no sign that anything substantial had occurred. They engaged in polite conversation.”
Tapper co-moderated the debate in June 2024 with CNN’s Dana Bash. The revelation by the former first lady has faced skepticism from both sides of the political aisle. In a CNN video, Tapper stated, “She finally admits her fears. Many Democrats are reacting to her honest account where she feared a stroke might have occurred on stage during the debate.”

Photos from June 27, 2024, show then-President Joe Biden with Jill Biden conversing with CNN’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash post-debate in Atlanta, Georgia. Jill Biden later reflected in an interview with CBS how she felt panic as she observed her husband’s performance, noting his raspy voice and long pauses.
The same night, Jill Biden appeared composed on camera, later joining her husband at a Waffle House and celebrating his performance despite the obvious concerns.
CNN host Abby Phillip highlighted the issue of transparency in her show after Jill Biden’s admission, critiquing the Democratic Party’s lack of openness. “This conversation regarding a clear misleading of the public needs to happen,” Phillip argued.
Additional insight into political maneuvers came from Tapper’s book, “Original Sin,” co-authored with his sources. The book explores Biden’s perceived mental decline and his subsequent replacement by Kamala Harris on the Democratic ticket.
