Stephanie Pratt has shifted her stance on her brother Spencer Pratt’s candidacy for Los Angeles mayor. Initially, she criticized his run, calling support for him a ‘vote for stupidity.’ However, she now endorses his efforts.
In an email to Vanity Fair, Stephanie acknowledged her initial skepticism. ‘I admit I was the first person to tell people that they were idiots if they voted for my brother,’ she remarked. She noted her change of heart, stating, ‘Wow, was I wrong. He has spent every day since the fires finding the facts, the mistakes, the negligence, and uncovering the truth that they never wanted us to know.’
Earlier this year, in a series of now-deleted social media posts, Stephanie had voiced strong objections. ‘Spencer has done great work for the Palisades. But LA does not need another unqualified and inexperienced mayor. A vote for him is a vote for stupidity,’ she wrote. She suggested he was primarily seeking fame and promoting his memoir.
Stephanie also expressed worries about Los Angeles in general. ‘I’m worried about LA. I have no problem playing government but our city needs help,’ she stated. Despite personal history, including a past altercation with her brother, which she mentioned had put her in the hospital, she now speaks in favor of his candidacy.
Spencer Pratt started his campaign in January, marking the anniversary of losing his home in the Palisades Fire. His campaign has since gained momentum, positioning him as an outsider challenger in the ongoing race. Recent polls indicate a competitive fight between Pratt, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and City Council member Nithya Raman.
Pratt’s campaign has attracted notable supporters such as Paris Hilton, Dennis Quaid, Katharine McPhee, and David Foster. As the primary election approaches, the top two vote-getters will proceed to the general election unless one candidate secures over 50% of the vote.
