Iran Warns of Major Risk for US Amid World Cup Tensions

An Iranian state media outlet, Nour News, has cautioned the United States about significant risks as the nation ramps up military engagement with Iran ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to Nour News, which is linked to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, the U.S. is at risk as it combines military pressure with diplomatic efforts involving Iran. They stated, “If the USA are betting on controlling oil and lowering gas prices ahead of the World Football Championship, they should understand: simultaneous military pressure and negotiations with Iran is a major risk.”

They further warned that any strategic mistakes could mark former President Trump as the embodiment of a costly miscalculation, likely to be remembered painfully during each World Cup event.

These warnings coincided with the U.S. resuming attacks on Iranian targets. On Monday, the United States conducted operations against Iranian missile sites and boats laying mines. These actions were described as necessary for self-defense.

Captain Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), confirmed, “U.S. forces conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces. Targets included missile launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to emplace mines.”

This is an ongoing situation, with further updates expected.
