Shooting Near White House Leaves Two Wounded

On Saturday evening, a shooting occurred near the White House, wounding two individuals. Law enforcement sources informed CBS News of the event, which involved a suspect and possibly a bystander. Both were transported to a nearby hospital, with the suspect in critical condition and the other in serious condition.

The incident took place at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Witnesses reported hearing between 15 to 30 gunshots.

Law Enforcement Response

Secret Service agents reportedly came under fire but were not injured. They returned fire during the incident. Several Secret Service officers were evaluated on the scene, though none required hospitalization.

Following the shooting, the White House was temporarily placed on lockdown. The lockdown has since been lifted, allowing the press to return to the White House North Lawn.
