Angel Reese began her career with the Chicago Sky and now finds herself a part of the Atlanta Dream following a surprising offseason trade. Her initial performances with the Dream have shown mixed results.
First Two Games: A Mixed Bag
Reese’s debut against the Minnesota Lynx reflected her experience in the WNBA. She managed to score 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting, secured 14 rebounds, and executed three blocks. However, she also committed five turnovers and received five personal fouls.
In her second game, Reese showed some improvement. She went 4-of-8 from the floor and grabbed 16 rebounds, helping her team secure a 77-72 victory over the Dallas Wings. This marked a promising progression for Reese.
Home Debut: A Tough Day
Her much-anticipated home debut with the Dream featured a sold-out crowd at the State Farm Arena. Reese entered the event with confidence, speaking positively about her skills in comparison to her opponent, A’ja Wilson.
Unfortunately, the game did not go as planned for Reese. She made one out of eight field-goal attempts and missed her only three-point shot. Reese also had eight turnovers, which matched the number of her rebounds. The result was a +/- rating of -13 for the 24-year-old player.
Reese’s struggles were notably highlighted by losing her shoe during one of several missed layups. With six missed layups and eight turnovers, it was a challenging performance for the forward.
Team Dynamics
During the same game, Reese’s on-court presence presented enough difficulties that head coach Karl Smesko decided to bench her with the team trailing by double digits. Atlanta mounted a comeback that fell just short, ending in an 85-84 defeat to the Las Vegas Aces.
Statistics Overview
Across her first three games with the Dream, Reese has a field-goal performance of 9-27, with no successful three-point shots from two attempts. She committed 16 turnovers and 11 fouls. Despite challenges, she collected 38 rebounds, made five blocks, and shot efficiently from the free-throw line with 14 out of 18.
Looking forward, Reese and the Atlanta Dream will stay at home, meeting the Dallas Wings for a rematch at the Gateway Center Arena.
