Owen Crouch’s Key Role in Jacobs’ Football Success

Junior receiver Owen Crouch reflects on a standout season with Jacobs, emphasizing a pivotal moment. A crucial play changed everything for him and the team. Two weeks ago, the Golden Eagles overcame a 17-point deficit against Burlington Central to stay unbeaten. Crouch’s 74-yard touchdown catch from Austin Stennett cut the gap to 20-10.

I’ve been thinking about this year, Crouch said, who finished with five catches for 111 yards in the 31-27 victory. I think that catch was the turning point for me, he noted, setting a standard for the rest of his season. He added, I feel like we never mentally lost that game. We didn’t put our heads down. He believes this resilience bodes well for upcoming challenges.

Following the game against the Rockets, the 5-foot-11, 150-pound Crouch recorded five catches for 135 yards and touchdowns of 69, 19, and 18 yards in a 49-6 triumph over McHenry. This win positions Jacobs (5-0, 5-0) to potentially lead the Fox Valley Conference against Huntley (5-0, 5-0).

Jacobs coach Brian Zimmerman praises Crouch’s precise route running and reliable hands. He agrees that Crouch’s long touchdown against Burlington Central sparked their comeback. That kind of sparked the comeback that night, Zimmerman said. He regards Crouch as a tough competitor who consistently catches passes, emphasizing his remarkable hands.

Much of Crouch’s success is attributed to teamwork with Austin Stennett, a junior quarterback. I work a lot on my route running and catching ability, Crouch stated. He explained that they collaborate daily to refine their skills.

Stennett has significantly progressed this season, contributing to the Golden Eagles’ offensive diversity. His connection with Crouch is undeniable. I’ve had Owen as one of my receivers since my first day of freshman year, Stennett commented. Their bond has been crucial in recent successes.

As Jacobs approaches their game against Huntley, they aim to maintain their undefeated status. This is a big game, Zimmerman remarked. He described the anticipated atmosphere, emphasizing their determination to continue their hard work.

Crouch intends to stay calm ahead of this significant match, acknowledging Huntley’s strengths but focusing on maintaining their game-to-game mentality. He transitioned from junior varsity to become Jacobs’ leading receiver and values his breakout season.

It’s nice because I was a JV player waiting my turn, but now it’s finally here, Crouch said. He expressed satisfaction in seeing his efforts realized and feels his confidence is growing.
