Chinese Girl Breaks Women’s Rubik’s Cube World Record

A 6-year-old girl from China, Lian Yunzhi, has achieved a new women’s world record for solving a 3×3 Rubik’s Cube in over 4 seconds, as reported by state media on Tuesday.

Young speedcuber Lian Yunzhi broke the record twice in three days at two World Cube Association certified competitions held in Wuhan and Guangzhou, according to CCTV. Her averages were 4.52 and 4.27 seconds after multiple solves. This makes Lian the first female speedcuber to average under 4.5 seconds.

Lian Yunzhi, 6, participates in a World Cube Association certified competition, setting the record in China.

Originally from Chengdu in Sichuan province, Lian gained attention with her skillful solving, captured in video wearing a red gingham bow while confidently handling the Cube. After placing the solved puzzle back on the table, she celebrated with claps and fist pumps.

Lian’s journey began when her mother, Lin Yangxi, enrolled her in various extracurricular classes, including dance and music, along with cubing. Lin noticed the positive impact speedcubing had on her daughter, emphasizing that it fosters comprehensive abilities.

Lian is now proficient in solving over 1,300 algorithms, dedicating 2 to 3 hours daily to practice. Her home in Sichuan displays her numerous trophies, showcasing her achievements.

Beyond memorizing algorithms, Lian uses logical reasoning for optimal solutions. Speedcubing enhances focus, memory, logical thinking, spatial recognition, and a balanced attitude towards competition.
