Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian experienced a challenging but ultimately victorious night on Saturday. The Longhorns faced a significant deficit, trailing 23-3 in the third quarter, but staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Ohio State, 24-23.
Throughout the game, Sarkisian showed signs of frustration, particularly regarding the interview process during halftime and postgame. As the ESPN broadcast aired, sideline reporter Laura Rutledge attempted to catch up with Sarkisian as he ran through the tunnel. At that moment, Texas was down 20-3.
Rutledge explained that Sarkisian had been patient, waiting for the interview despite facing technical difficulties. She clarified, “I want to make sure we clear something up. (Sarkisian) did decline the interview at the half. He had waited a long time, been very patient with some technical issues that we had. He apologized to us. We should be apologizing to him, which we did.”
After the victory, ESPN’s Holly Rowe approached Sarkisian for a postgame interview. The encounter was brief and somewhat awkward, as Sarkisian quickly returned to the locker room after sharing a few words: “Texas fight, hook ‘em.” His limited remarks drew mixed reactions online.
The game featured impressive performances from players like Arch Manning, who accumulated 195 passing yards and a touchdown pass. Hollywood Smothers contributed with two rushing touchdowns and 74 yards on the ground. On the Ohio State side, Julian Sayin threw for 278 yards, with a touchdown pass and an interception. Receiver Jeremiah Smith caught eight passes for 164 yards and a touchdown.
