The search for the next James Bond has begun. Former Bond girl Alison Papworth has spoken out, urging the producers to keep the next Bond a male. Speaking with Fox News Digital, she expressed her hope for the character to remain true to its origins. Papworth stated, “If they’re true to the books, I hope it’s a man. It would be very strange if it were a woman.”
Amazon MGM Studios announced the commencement of the search for a new 007, following its creative control acquisition of the franchise in 2025. The upcoming movie, set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Steven Knight, will be the 26th in the franchise, succeeding Daniel Craig’s role in “No Time to Die.”
Gary Oldman has suggested that his “Slow Horses” costar Jack Lowden is one of the names rumored to be on the list for the role. Oldman shared his hopes for Lowden, while also mentioning that a decision appears close.
Papworth, known for her roles in “For Your Eyes Only” and “Octopussy” alongside Roger Moore, shared anecdotes from her experiences filming the movies. She recalled Moore as a “gentleman” and shared a humorous memory about smuggling beef drippings for him during their time in India.
Being part of Bond films has left a lasting impact on Papworth’s life. She reminisced about forming lifelong friendships with other Bond girls like Vanya Seager and Carole Ashby, cherishing the deep personal connections made during her Bond journey.
After her appearances in the Bond films, Papworth transitioned into interior design, launching Camhall Design & Consultancy in the U.K. This venture proved successful, with projects spanning London, New York, Boston, and the Bahamas. Her passion for design developed alongside her late husband, who supported her venture into the business.
In addition to her business, Papworth has partnered with Joan Collins to support Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, assisting families with children who face life-limiting conditions.
Reflecting on her time in the entertainment industry, Papworth appreciates not having widespread fame, allowing her to maintain a private life while occasionally participating in public appearances such as signings. Yet, she remains fond of the show business world, expressing gratitude for the opportunities it has afforded her.
