Lionel Richie was hospitalized on Monday in St. Louis following a concert at The Muny in Forest Park. The specifics of why he was hospitalized remain unclear.
Richie, aged 77, has experienced several health issues over recent months, leading to the cancellation of various shows. In July, Richie reassured fans via a social media post, writing, “Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love. I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”
Earlier in his tour in Minnesota, Richie postponed shows due to feeling “dizzy” during his opening performance. The United Center also confirmed that Richie’s upcoming concerts in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, were canceled on doctors’ advice.
An announcement stated, “Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows. Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans.”
In a previous incident, a St. Paul Fire Department public information officer confirmed that someone was transported from Grand Casino Arena to a local hospital by Saint Paul Fire-EMS on June 24, 2026. During a concert there, Richie had informed the crowd he was feeling lightheaded after performing “Dancing on the Ceiling” and paused his performance.
Richie, known for his role as a judge on “American Idol,” has appeared on the show for nine seasons. His recent health issues have raised concerns, but Richie remains optimistic about returning to the stage.
