Sally Field Pays Tribute to Dolly Parton at Emmy Awards

Sally Field shared heartfelt memories of her co-star Dolly Parton at the 2026 Emmy Awards held in Los Angeles, California. Reflecting on Parton’s impactful life, Field called her an ‘angel on earth,’ honoring the late country music legend whose contributions to art and humanity continue to resonate.

Dolly Parton passed away on August 25, at the age of 80, after a brief battle with cancer, as confirmed by her representatives. Both Parton and director Rob Reiner were honored during this year’s ceremony at the Peacock Theater.

‘It was my great, good fortune to have worked with Dolly in a film called “Steel Magnolias,” and over the years I never stopped loving her though we lived very far apart,’ Field expressed, highlighting Parton’s humility and humor.

Field, who is 79 years old, shared how she realized over time the immense influence Parton had not only as an artist but as a humanitarian. She underscored Parton’s efforts to make a significant difference in the lives of people in Tennessee and beyond.

Reba McEntire paid musical respects by performing Parton’s 1983 classic “Appalachian Memories” in honor of the beloved singer. McEntire’s performance came after Parton’s peaceful departure at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, surrounded by loved ones.

Noah Kahan contributed to the event with a rendition of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” as part of the tribute to the late director Rob Reiner. Reiner passed away in December, leaving behind his spouse, Michele Singer Reiner, and their son Nick Reiner.

‘Last year we lost another cherished legend, our beloved “Meathead,” Rob Reiner,’ Jamie Lee Curtis remarked. She remembered Reiner as a kind and humorous friend, noting his record-breaking Emmy legacy.

Macaulay Culkin, alongside “Schitt’s Creek” stars Annie Murphy and Dan Levy, commemorated the life of actress Catherine O’Hara. O’Hara, remembered for her motherly role in “Home Alone,” died in January at 71 due to a brief illness.

‘There are all kinds of words I could use to describe Catherine,’ Culkin stated. ‘She was encouraging, she was warm, she was funny. But the word that I think of is mama.’

Culkin urged attendees to connect with their loved ones, emphasizing the importance of familial bonds.
