Ohio Couple Arrested for Alleged Attack on Family During Cruise

An Ohio couple, Gannon Jacox and Brooklyn Hicks, were arrested after allegedly attacking a family on a cruise ship. The incident took place after the ship returned to Port Canaveral, Florida. The arrests were confirmed by Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Incident Details

The altercation began when Jacox, 29, and Hicks, 28, were reportedly arguing loudly after consuming alcohol. One of the nearby passengers asked them to quiet down. Hicks then confronted the victim, while Jacox recorded the situation on his phone and encouraged Hicks to attack.

“As a fight ensued, Jacox hit all three people involved, including the child, while Hicks swung, hoping to land a punch,” Sheriff Ivey noted.

The confrontation escalated as the couple forced their way into the family’s cabin, where a 9-year-old was present. Jacox allegedly struck all three victims during the altercation. Hicks was also involved in throwing punches, according to the sheriff. None of the victims sustained serious injuries.

Charges and Response

Jacox faced charges of burglary with battery and child abuse without causing great bodily harm. Hicks was charged with burglary with battery and battery-touch/strike. Jacox sustained an eye injury during the fight. It is unclear if the injury was inflicted by Hicks or the victims.

Authorities have not disclosed the specific cruise ship involved. However, four ships were docked at Port Canaveral on the day of the incident: Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas, Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Treasure, and Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras and Carnival Freedom.

Sheriff’s Warning

Sheriff Ivey warned cruise passengers about excessive drinking and causing disturbances. He stated, If you can’t hold your liquor, then you definitely shouldn’t be out in public causing a scene like this and injuring random people including a child!

The sheriff advised those prone to such behavior to avoid Brevard County. This incident serves as a reminder for passengers to maintain responsible conduct while traveling.
