In an interview with Kayleigh McEnany, FBI Director Kash Patel discussed substantial achievements in crime and fraud prevention during the Trump administration. Patel outlined impressive results, including a significant 185% decline in violent crime, the rescue of over 7,000 children from predators, and the dismantling of millions of pedophile networks. Additionally, the FBI successfully handled two hostage scenarios and disrupted over $8 billion in fraudulent schemes.
The FBI celebrated the first anniversary of enhanced federal enforcement efforts in Washington, D.C., following President Trump’s Safe and Beautiful initiative. This initiative increased federal law enforcement presence, deploying hundreds of agents and National Guard troops to combat crime in the nation’s capital.
According to Patel, since the introduction of this initiative, federal law enforcement has made over 6,000 arrests, carried out close to 2,000 drug seizures, and confiscated over 1,300 illegal firearms. Homicides in the area have decreased by an impressive 44% compared to the previous year. The initiative led to 6,121 arrests, 237 search warrants, and the recovery of $252,592 in cash, highlighting its impact.
“The greatest country on earth should have a capital city reflecting it, where American taxpayers can live, visit, and petition their government without fear of violent crime,” Patel stated.
The federal crime crackdown followed a series of violent incidents in Washington. Notable cases included the murder of 21-year-old congressional intern Eric Tarpinian in June 2025, the assault on a former DOGE staffer, and the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old, allegedly involving MS-13 gang members.
The deployment of the National Guard attracted criticism from Democratic leaders, including former Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser, who questioned the legality of using the National Guard for policing American citizens.
Despite criticisms, Patel expressed confidence in the initiative’s progress and its future continuation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the safety and security of the nation’s capital.
