F-16 Intercepts Aircraft Over Ohio

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) announced on Tuesday that an F-16 fighter jet intercepted a general aviation aircraft over Geneva, Ohio. This action occurred due to a violation of temporary flight restrictions. The aircraft was escorted out of the restricted area safely.

The Air Force explained that flares were used during the interception to capture the pilot’s attention. The flares are designed to burn out quickly and safely, posing no threat to those on the ground. NORAD emphasized the importance of pilots checking Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS) and FAA Temporary Flight Restrictions.

President Trump was present in Geneva at the time for the 2026 Patriot Games finale. NORAD had also intercepted two aircraft over Bedminster, New Jersey, during Trump’s attendance at the LIV Golf Bedminster tournament.
