A former member of Thailand’s House of Representatives, Chalong Reawraeng, has reportedly been arrested following an alleged shooting incident outside Bangkok. This information emerged from a phone call to a media commentator just before local authorities confirmed his detention.

The incident involved Chalong allegedly shooting Thongchai Yenprasert, an ex-police officer who currently worked in Nonthaburi province, along with his driver. Thongchai and his driver were in the area, just outside the capital, when the attack occurred.

Major General Dejrapee Kongdee, the provincial police chief, confirmed the arrest of the former lawmaker. This event follows closely on the heels of another tragic event in the same province, where a teenager earlier shot his grandparents and opened fire at a school, resulting in nine fatalities. This tragedy has spurred ongoing discussions on gun control in the country.

Local media and the BBC reported that journalist Anchalee Paireerak received a phone call during a live YouTube broadcast, during which she appeared shocked. She asked the caller if someone had died after being shot in the head, and advised the caller to stay put for police arrival.
