A Southern California couple experienced an unexpected birth when their daughter arrived in a Jack in the Box parking lot, assisted by firefighters. Michelle Cisneros and Darren Campbell had been on their way to the hospital but realized they couldn’t make it in time. Their daughter, Valentina Isla Campbell, was born 15 days early.

Cisneros initially thought the contractions were Braxton Hicks. As they intensified, she decided to visit labor and delivery to ensure everything was fine. Despite being evaluated and discharged twice from Hoag Hospital, she continued to experience frequent contractions.

After being monitored for an hour during a hospital visit, Cisneros was sent home with instructions to return if contractions were three minutes apart. Despite reaching this timing, the hospital discharged her again, having administered morphine for her pain. Darren Campbell attempted to convey the urgency to hospital staff, but they were sent home once more.

Believing they had time, the couple set off home but quickly had to stop two miles away in a Jack in the Box parking lot when Valentina’s arrival became imminent. They called 911, and firefighters arrived swiftly to assist with the delivery.

Both parents felt immense relief when their daughter arrived safely. Cisneros highlighted the importance of trusting instincts and advocated for better listening from medical professionals. Campbell emphasized knowing one’s body and the necessity of speaking up when experiencing strong gut feelings.

After recovering for several days, the family returned home with their healthy newborn. Hoag Hospital and Jack in the Box have yet to comment on the incident.
