Reflections Six Years After the Abraham Accords

Six years have passed since the Abraham Accords were signed, marking a significant shift in Middle Eastern relations. The agreement, signed at the White House on September 15, 2020, by leaders from Bahrain, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States, aimed to normalize diplomatic ties between these nations.

Following the accords, the Jewish community in Abu Dhabi experienced significant growth. Kosher restaurants emerged, allowing for cultural culinary exchanges. Rabbis took the opportunity to publicly celebrate the High Holidays, enhancing the visibility of Jewish traditions. This period also saw the opening of the first public synagogue in the United Arab Emirates, a milestone reflecting a broader acceptance and integration.

Despite these positive developments, there are complex feelings concerning the relationship with Israel. While many appreciate the security assistance provided by Israel, others have privately expressed frustration. These sentiments illustrate the multidimensional nature of international relations forged through the Abraham Accords.
