Jackson Lahmeyer has announced the suspension of his campaign for Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District following allegations of inappropriate text messages. This decision comes just days before the Republican primary. Lahmeyer, previously running for the Republican nomination, released a statement on X, explaining that after careful reflection with his wife, Kendra, and his campaign team, he opted to cease his congressional bid.
Lahmeyer, who is known in the Tulsa region as a pastor and has formerly run for the U.S. Senate, emphasized his desire not to become a source of distraction for his family, his church, and the residents of Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District. In a notable development, President Donald Trump withdrew his endorsement of Lahmeyer, acknowledging Lahmeyer’s dedication under challenging circumstances while affirming their continued mutual respect.
A report by the Daily Mail attracted national attention by highlighting an alleged texting scandal involving Lahmeyer and a former Miss Oklahoma USA. The report threatened to overshadow his campaign’s closing days. Lahmeyer responded to the allegations, questioning the presentation of the facts and expressing disappointment in the representation of his actions.
Lahmeyer admitted to overstepping boundaries through text communication and subsequently cutting off contact. He criticized the narrative presented in the British tabloid, suggesting that their portrayal was selectively curated to mislead the public. Lahmeyer shared these thoughts in a Facebook post, questioning the motives behind the report.
Trump initially supported Lahmeyer in early May, labeling him a ‘MAGA Warrior.’ However, following the recent events, Trump extended his endorsement to State Representative Mark Tedford. Both Lahmeyer and Tedford had advanced to a runoff, with Lahmeyer capturing 25.9 percent of the vote, placing second.
The race for Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District now proceeds without Lahmeyer, one of the campaign’s prominent figures. The situation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information emerges.
