Iranian Tankers Pass Through U.S. Blockade in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian tankers carrying millions of barrels of crude oil have successfully navigated through the U.S. blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. This event took place only days before the anticipated unveiling of the U.S.-Iran peace agreement. Two specific tankers, Diona and Hero 2, which have U.S. sanctions against them, managed to pass the blockade. According to the shipping data website TankerTrackers, they transported approximately 3.8 million barrels of Iranian crude oil.

TankerTrackers reported on the platform X that “at least two National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) VLCC supertankers named DIONA (9569695) and HERO2 (9362073) have exited the US Navy blockade perimeter carrying a combined total of 3.8 million barrels of Iranian crude oil between them.” It was also noted that a third NITC tanker, classified as a Suezmax, has left the blockade zone carrying 1 million barrels of oil.

President Donald Trump enacted a naval blockade on Iran in April after talks in Pakistan did not result in an agreement. The blockade was meant to compel Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping and to cease its interference with maritime traffic.

The U.S.-Iran peace deal is scheduled to be revealed in a signing ceremony at the Bürgenstock resort in Switzerland on Friday. While the details remain undisclosed, Trump stated that the vital Strait of Hormuz would be “completely open.” He remarked during the G7 meeting in France, “I think a lot of great things are going to happen in the Middle East right now. And very importantly, the oil is plummeting down and the stock market is shooting up like a rocket today.”

He emphasized that the core issue is Iran agreeing not to develop nuclear weapons, with the country fully agreeing to international policing powers to ensure compliance.

This is a developing story. More updates will follow.
