Senator Bernie Sanders, an Independent from Vermont, chose not to address several questions on Tuesday regarding abuse allegations against Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner. When asked by Fox News Digital whether he believed the women accusing Platner of misconduct, Sanders offered no response.
While awaiting an elevator at the Capitol, Sanders was questioned by Fox News Digital about his stance on the allegations. Sanders previously supported Platner by campaigning for him. However, he remained silent on the matter.
The Rising Controversies in Graham Platner’s Campaign
Platner, a Marine veteran and oyster farmer, has faced accusations from multiple women concerning abusive behavior. Additionally, controversy has arisen over sexually explicit messages, offensive social media posts, and allegations related to a Nazi-linked tattoo. Platner denies these accusations and continues to have the backing of prominent Democrats such as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
Fox News Digital also questioned Sanders about Platner allegedly knowing about the controversial tattoo. Again, Sanders did not provide any comments while waiting for the elevator.
Political Support Amid Allegations
Despite the controversies, Platner retains significant support from high-profile Democrats. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, alongside Sanders, continue to back him.
Platner’s ability to remain a strong challenger has yet to be determined as Maine Democrats were set to vote on Tuesday. Their decision will determine who faces incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins in November, marking one of the most crucial Senate races in the country.
