Trump’s Fund for Jan. 6 Rioters Raises Controversy

There is a new twist in President Trump’s ongoing attempt to alter the narrative of the January 6 Capitol riot. The administration has created a fund to compensate those who believe they were wronged by the federal government, including individuals who participated in the riot.

Reports indicate that, if every participant applied for the fund, each could receive around $1.125 million. The fund is part of a larger settlement concerning a lawsuit against the IRS.

Antony Vo, a former rioter who evaded his prison sentence, learned about the fund while with a friend. The news brought him surprise, relief, and gratitude. Vo, along with others involved, sees the fund as recognition of their perceived victimhood by the government.

Some involved express confusion about the claims process. Enrique Tarrio, leader of the Proud Boys who received a 22-year sentence, acknowledged there are many uncertainties but views the fund as a positive step.
